[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]In the world of Carrara marble, every profession has its own specific name which often derives from ancient traditions and sometimes translation of dialect expressions. This is the case for the expression “Yard supervisor” that is the person who co-ordinates the work and the activities in the company yard that, for the sake of comprehension, can be compared to a warehouse or storehouse but it is more unique because it is the soul of the company after the quarry. Visually, it is a yard but actually it is more than this. This is where most of the activities are managed: from the marble arrival to its shipment, through the processings management. This is a complex system requiring highly professional standards. This is why the yard supervisor is the heritage of a past looking to the future and speaking of a transformed profession.<\/p>\n

Inside the FUM, the activities in the yard are supervised by Massimo Baruzzo, who has been working for the company for 25 years.
\n“In summary, I’m in charge of logistic and processings” he told us while showing us his typical day in the yard. “The first thing I do in the morning is allocating activities according to the schedule of outgoing and incoming loads first to the machine operators then to the yard’s workers. It has to be imagined as a complex system with different activities. Every day we schedule the processings and as a consequence the material handling while respecting our schedule. Our work follows the material up to its departure. At this stage, we must pay the utmost attention both in the packaging phase and in the phase of checking the shipping lists”.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text]Today, in organising the activities in the yard, Massimo is helped by the tecnology that also influences the evolution of his job.
\n\u201cThere has been a big improvement of my job, as there is a lot of difference if I look back at few years ago. Technology has gone hand in hand with the most modern processings available. Today machines have incredible accuracy with a very small margin of error of a few tenths. Consequently, as operators, we can act with a precision never seen before”.<\/p>\n

But Massimo’s work is characterised also by a great responsibility because it is part of a system that has accuracy and organisation as its distinctive aspects.
\n\u201cAt the end of the day everything must be perfect and updated in the systems. There can be no oversights”, he explained. “For this reason, we are constantly in contact with the sales director to schedule the work of the same day and the ones after.
\nThanks to the company organisation, as operators we have an advanced management software with a camera system for every single product including measurements.
