In Damien Hirst\u2019s works belonging to the Treasures from the Wreck of the Unbelievable series, marble becomes part of a great archaeological fiction: monumental figures that seems to have emerged from the past but are the result of a complex contemporary production process, in which the precision of craftsmanship supports the play between myth, artifice, and classical memory. In Fabio Viale\u2019s work, marble often seems to contradict itself: it becomes a tire, paper, polystyrene, a tattooed surface, a light object, while still remaining stone. In Cattelan\u2019s work, marble can become a public gesture, a provocation, an inverted monument. In Koons\u2019s work, the material meets the iconic shine of pop imagery, bringing the sculptural tradition into a global and immediately recognizable language.<\/span><\/p>\n

The artists mentioned here have been selected from among the many who work in the district to show how all these paths, although very different, share a common point: they demonstrate that Carrara marble does not belong only to the history of art, but continues to be a material of the present.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In this evolution, Carrara maintains its identity precisely because it does not remain static. Its strength does not lie in defending a closed tradition, but in continuing to make that tradition work within the present. Robotics, when integrated into a conscious supply chain, does not eliminate the human touch: it makes it possible to tackle scales, complexities, and timeframes that would otherwise be difficult to manage, while leaving the finishing, control, and artisanal sensitivity with the task of giving the work its ultimate quality.<\/span><\/p>\n
