The use of Carrara marble in architecture has a thousand-year tradition whose roots reach back to Roman times, with its first architectural as well as artistic uses. More than two thousand years of history have handed down to humanity architectural masterpieces in marble from every era: from religious to civic settings, by way of great privately commissioned works.

THE MARBLE PROFESSIONS
The Associazione Compagnia Lizzatori Carrara, with the aim of making known and celebrating the labour carried out in the marble quarries of the Apuan Alps, promotes and organises the re-enactment of the ‘lizzatura’, the ancient way of moving a marble block from the quarry yard down to the ‘poggi’ (the loading stations), from which it was then carried down to the valley and on to the places where it was worked and sculpted;
